The Halle Masterclass

On Sunday July 4th at the Alderley Edge School for newsGirls, London Road, Alderley Edge, the Alderley Edge Festival held a 'strings' masterclass. This masterclass was sponsored by the Alderley Edge Festival, facilitated by The Halle, with individual coaching in the morning and group classes in the afternoon. Specially selected 'strings' winners and other improving players were invited to attend this masterclass, with members of The Halle Orchestra as the teachers. This was an exciting and excellent opportunity for young string musicians to experience coaching from the experts.

AGM

The 2009 AGM was opened by our President Judy Hill.  In her opening remarks she says that the best part of being President of the Festival, was because it gives her an opportunity to thank all the Committee for all their hard work.

In his Chairman's report, Keith Lowe started by saying 'I have now completed three years as Chairman, and over that time I have had nothing but the utmost support from all the committee and all the helpers.  It is a privilege to be part of such a wonderful organisation, and I am proud and honoured to be the Chairman of a group of people that are friendly, helpful and committed to the cause, and who unstintingly give of their time to the support of the children and to the arts in particular.  We still have our annual quirks to deal with, but at no time do we let them become issues.  This is down to lots of hard work by lots of willing people - hard graft but great fun - and I thank you all for your support.'

A BIG THANKS!

Keith Lowe emphasised how extremely grateful he is to all the committee, and especially to those members who have committed themselves to another year in office.

Thanks also went to the newest member of the committee, Gabrielle Jeffcoat.  Gabrielle is a resident of Alderley Edge, was a performer herself at the Festival a number of years ago, and her two children have continued in that tradition by performing themselves over the last few years. Gabrielle is a welcome addition to the Alderley Edge Committee 'family'.

'Thank you to The Emerson Group'

Once again our thanks must go to Mark Emerson Jones of the Emerson Group for taking over the responsibility of printing the syllabus and programme for the Festival in 2010.  Mark and the Jones family are major sponsors (and Friends) of our Festival, and this extra commitment has come at just the right time for us.  Printing is one of the most significant costs incurred by a Festival, so to have Mark and The Emerson groups commit to this for the foreseeable future as one of their many contributions to the local community, is very, very welcome.

Emerson use a printer in Sandbach - Impressions Design and Print - who have been more than accommodating in supplying a completed high quality syllabus and programme.  They can be found by contacting David Lownds at

2c & 2d Queen's Drive. Sandbach, Cheshire . CW11 1DA or by telephoning  01270 767661 (Ext 101) or faxing 01270 764719 or by e-mail at: www.impressionsdesignandprint.co.uk
